In the book of Second Kings chapter 4 we see a powerful story, which I believe masterfully illustrates the unlimited power of the favor of God. The centerpiece is not the profoundness of the prophet Elisha, but the desperate situation of this widow woman. She was in a position where creditors were about to take her sons and there seemed to be no solution in the natural realm. I believe that God allowed this to be written just to prove to us that there is no situation that He cannot handle. She wondered if there was anything that the prophet could do for her. This woman found favor in the eyes of the prophet Elisha. You must understand that it was a huge deal to encounter the favorable treatment of a man of God in those days. He asked her if there was anything that he could do for her. As you can imagine, she quickly told the man of God the situation. Instead of receiving a list of public aid organizations or wealthy business people in the area, he asked a very simple yet profound question, “What’s in the house?” Why did Elisha ask the woman this question? This situation qualified as an opportunity to see the supernatural favor of God in action.

It was discussed previously that the favor of God is an empowerment and an accelerator. If you are a covenant child of God, you already have everything necessary to meet what you perceive to be an immediate need or a desperate situation. You are already blessed! The woman answered the man of God in the same way that many of us would answer, she said, “I don’t have anything, except a pot of oil.” She never considered that the oil in her house could even remotely come close to meeting her need. She was in a situation where what she had seemed extremely insufficient, but the favor of God was supernaturally transferred to the little that she had.

The man of God did not empathize with the widow woman for one second. The first thing he told the woman to do was to “Go”! The word used for go is the Hebrew word yalak (Strong’s, H3212). This word means to proceed or to walk on. So Elisha was telling the woman that her limitation was not an excuse to stop moving forward in the miracle that she was expecting from God.

Never halt in your expectation. Don’t stop believing God! Keep moving forward and you will see the favor of God manifest like never before. The woman was commanded to go and borrow empty pots from her neighbor as many as possible. He told her to shut the door behind her and her sons, then pour the oil into the vessels and set them aside once she was done. Every time the vessel became full she would tell her sons to fetch more vessels. The more vessels she received, the more oil poured out. It finally came to the point where they ran out of vessels and the oil stayed.
